Censorship in the BOAI List

I tried to post a message in the BOAI Mail List, but the moderator Iryna Kuchma (“EIFL Open Access programme manager”) in private message said me that ” the format of your post is not appropriate for BOAI Forum discussion list”.

I tried to send again including my name and additional infos but I did not get any reply.

I cannot accept that kind of censorship, specially from people that like says be working in favour of “open access” of knowledge.

Above my “inapropriate message”. I just wold like to spread a news about a political action in defense of open access of knowledge.

On Tuesday (13), Sage and the International Sociological Association (ISA) offered a wine reception at the ISA’s Congress for the launching of Sociopedia.isa – “an online database of ‘state-of-the-art’ entries in sociology”. Everithing was working well, but they did not expect a protest after the announcement of the publication.

“When the presentation was over, we called for attention, showed the banners and proposed a toast for free knowledge and open access. Then we handed out the small flyers explaining why our cause was important. We received many warm comments from the sociologists who attended the event, and as a micro-intervention, in the heart of global sociology, we did achieve to present the “other way”; that of openness.
